Keep Mould and Smells away from your Washing!

Keep Mould and Smells away from your Washing!

Keep Mould and Smells away from your Washing! appeared first on Neatspiration

Your Washing Machine and Dryer are meant to clean and dry your clothes – leaving them with that smell of clean!

But…sometimes things don’t go according to plan…I am not sure which is scarier…your clothes smelling musty after being freshly washed and dried…or the reason why they smell!!

There are two main reasons your clothes could be smelly…

  • Mould in either the Washing Machine or the Dryer.
  • Product buildup in in either the Washing Machine or the Dryer that results in a gunky sludge.

The main reason clothes can be smelly, is because of Mould. Mould LOVES Washing Machines and Dryers as they are warm and cosy!! Closing the doors and lid, unknowingly create a perfect breading ground for Mould…and the worst thing we can do, is to wash and forget…you know…leaving damp washed clothes for a day or two…especially if you use hot water.

Mould can also grow in your dryer, if the dryer timer stops before the load has finished drying, and you leave it for a bit too long.

Here are my tips to fix both problems!!

Firstly, it can be really hard to determine if the problem is the Washing Machine or the Dryer!!

Clothes may smell bad coming out of the Dryer, and NOT the Washing Machine…but it can still be the Washing Machine and NOT the Dryer…as detergent can mask washing machine smells…

So I treat both mould and product buildup problems in exactly the same way!

How to fix the Washing Machine!!

Option 1.

  • Spray all the rubber seals with Aldi Mould Remover/Chlorine Bleach.
  • Do a hot long wash cycle with no clothes and a cup of Aldi Mould Remover/Chlorine Bleach and 1.25 ml of Neatspiration Clove Bud Oil.
  • Then, when the cycle has finished, spray the inside with diluted Clove Bud Oil, open the door, and leave for 24 hours.
  • Then do another hot long wash cycle with no clothes and a cup of vinegar…and you are ready to go again!

Clove Bud Oil is the only thing that will kill the spours – The bleach will only remove the mould stain.

Option 2.

  • Sprinkle Sodium percarbonate on the rubber seals, and pour a small about of boiling/hot water into the seals. Leave for 10 minutes.
  • Do a hot long wash cycle with no clothes and a cup of Sodium Percarbonate/Oxygen Bleach and 1.25 ml of Neatspiration Clove Bud Oil.
  • Then, when the cycle has finished, spray the inside with diluted Clove Bud Oil, open the door, and leave for 24 hours.
  • Then do another hot long wash cycle with no clothes and a cup of vinegar…and you are ready to go again!

This option is the Eco friendly option.

How to fix the Dryer!!

  • Thoroughly spray Aldi Mould Remover/Chlorine Bleach. all over the internal bowl.
  • Leave for 10 minutes.
  • Then spray with and 1.25 ml of Neatspiration Clove Bud Oil, and leave for 24 hours.
  • Soak a old rag in vinegar and dry the item in the dryer…and you are ready to go again!

You may need a professional to open up the dryer so you can clean inside if this does not work.

Tips to prevent Mould and Buildup from forming again!

  • Always keep the doors/lid open.
  • Always remove washed clothes from the washing machine as soon as the cycle finishes.
  • As soon as the dryer cycle finishes, check that the clothes are fully dry and remove as soon as possible
  • Don’t leave damp clothes in the dryer.
  • After you take all the clothes out, spin the inside cylinder like you are playing wheel of fortune…lol. It gets out any water sitting stagnant, in both your Washer and Dryer.
  • Check the vent at the back of the clothes dryer and clean it too. This can get blocked and create smells.
  • Regularly clean your Washing Machine Filters and the lower tray on front loaders.
  • Powder can reduce smells, so switch to powder if you are using liquid and are having smell issues.
  • Do not use fabric softener – use white vinegar instead.
